How to migrate from Laragon to LampRabit and keep your .test domains

Move Laragon sites and databases to LampRabit step by step. Your .test URLs stay the same, and you gain per-site PHP versions and HTTPS by default.

Laragon users have the easiest move of all: both tools turn www/shop into shop.test, so your URLs don’t change. What changes is what you get on top: a PHP version per site, Apache and Nginx side by side, HTTPS by default, and a licence that’s free for commercial work. The full Laragon migration guide covers every detail; here’s the path.

1. Check what Laragon is running

In Laragon’s menu, note your PHP version(s) and whether you use MySQL or MariaDB. Then install LampRabit and add the same PHP versions on the Services page. You can install several and assign them per site later.

2. Export your databases

With Laragon’s database running, export with HeidiSQL (Export database as SQL) or from Laragon’s terminal:

mysqldump -u root --routines --events --databases shop blog > C:\temp\laragon-dbs.sql

3. Quit Laragon

Stop All, then Exit from the tray icon. Turn off “Run Laragon when Windows starts” so it doesn’t take ports 80, 443 and 3306 again.

4. Import into LampRabit

Start MariaDB (or MySQL, if your projects need it) and import the dump with phpMyAdmin or the command-line client:

SOURCE C:/temp/laragon-dbs.sql;

Coming from MySQL 8 into MariaDB? The utf8mb4_0900_ai_ci collation is supported by MariaDB 11.8, the default LampRabit installs. Users with caching_sha2_password may need recreating. Or install MySQL in LampRabit and keep using it.

5. Move your projects

Copy each folder from C:\laragon\www to C:\lampRabit\www (Open www opens it). Laravel and Symfony projects are served from public/ automatically. Use real folders, not shortcuts or junctions.

6. Pick PHP and server per site

On the Sites page, give each project its PHP version (or leave it on the default), and if you set Settings → Web server to Both, pick Apache or Nginx per site.

7. Hosts file and HTTPS

Click Apply changes and approve the administrator prompt; LampRabit writes its own marked section of the hosts file. Laragon’s #laragon magic! lines point the same domains at 127.0.0.1, so they don’t conflict; remove them whenever you like. Click Trust certificate and your sites open on https://.

8. Update project config

  • APP_URL=https://shop.test for Laravel (or keep http:// and turn HTTPS off for that site).
  • Mail settings for Mailpit (127.0.0.1:1025) work unchanged.
  • Move php.ini tweaks into a .user.ini in the project.

Once everything runs, uninstall Laragon, and remove its certificate authority from certmgr.msc if you like.

Frequently asked questions

Do my Laragon .test domains change?

No. LampRabit serves C:\lampRabit\www\shop at shop.test, just like Laragon. HTTPS is on by default, so https://shop.test works too.

I used MySQL 8 in Laragon. Can I keep MySQL?

Yes. LampRabit runs Oracle MySQL next to MariaDB (MySQL on port 3307 by default). You can also import MySQL dumps into MariaDB, which reads them with a couple of known snags.

Can I run LampRabit and Laragon at the same time?

Not on the same ports. Quit Laragon before starting LampRabit's web server and database, or change LampRabit's ports in Settings.
